Delta Photo Club 2010

Tonight was the very first meeting of 2010. We had a great crowd of about 52 members and 4 guests out for a workshop on Adobe Lightroom 2.6 hosted by Michael Hinkins the Lens & Shutter store manager for the West Broadway store. As usual Mike did a great job of fielding all the questions thrown at him.

Mike also showed off the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport and showed how to use it in Lightroom. This is one of my favorite products for the past year and several DPC members have already purchased some. I did blog on this product here:

With the help of several members will will be putting several White Balance Products including the ColorChecker Passport through their paces with a complete set of Standardized Tests and we will follow that up with a full review which we will post here.

This photo below is a shot of the Delta Photo Club meeting taken about 10 minutes before meeting start. It was taken with my new Canon G11, yes my very first shot, with all unknown default settings! I barely had time to get the battery in before I left the house.

I received the G11 as a gift that was on my list to have an everyday camera that I can have with me most of the time. I would like to “document” more this year and thought with would be a good solution.

Speaking of the holidays I did get some cool new toys including a 32 Gig iPod Touch for me to use as a Photography Tool with the OnOne Remote Control Software. This cool little device will remotely control my Canon 5D MkII but there is also a great assortment of software available for various Photography Calculations for Flash, DOF, HDR, ShutterSpeed, even some Large Format 4x5 and 8x10 stuff. I even managed to find a full digital copy of the 5D MkII manual specially laid out for use on the iPod Touch.

I received many other great little toys that I will highlight along the way this year. Tonight I brought my camera out to show off my great new BlackRapid Camera Strap, the RS-7. It was a big hit and four people want to get one right away after trying it out for a mere 10 or 20 seconds each. Not sure if it can be found locally but ask Michael at Lens & Shutter as I’m sure he can bring them in. I acquired mine from U.S. The link to Amazon is here:

Looking into the New Year I am already preparing for two Workshops that I will be giving at several different clubs in the Lower Mainland, “HDR” and “The Colour of Light, A White Balance Primer”. I have several photography projects to complete this summer and then I need to prepare for a Photography Trip to capture the Fall Colours of Cape Breton Island in the second week of October. This also happens to also be the week of the Fall Colours Music Festival. This outing will be open to the public, please let me know if you are interested in attending so I can add you to a mailing list. I will give several workshops on the trip, we will have at least one guest pro photographer giving a workshop. This should be an incredible photo and lobster filled week.

Today I also received my Canon Certified Professional Photographer package. All in all I had a great holiday and hope that yours was just as good or better. I also wish you, a great New Year of Clicking!
